A beautiful, healthy saltwater aquarium is all about balance, and Fiji Gold is the only all-natural supplement with immediate observable results.

Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement is an all-natural calcium supplement derived from actual coral reef substrate and seawater, and it should be part of every coral reef aquarist’s dosing regimen. This coral reef tank supplement is proven to raise calcium, alkalinity and pH levels in any tropical reef tank. It promotes rapid growth of coralline algae on live rock, and the beneficial effects on coral and other invertebrates are, in most cases, immediately evidenced by expansion and an observable feeding response. Best of all, Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement (unlike most coral supplements) is all-natural, meaning that it is virtually impossible to overdose.

Adding Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement to a Reef Aquarium

Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement is most commonly sold in a 20 ounce container with a recommended dosage of one tablespoon per thirty gallons. To add the powder-like supplement to the aquarium, the aquarist may add the desired amount of Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement to a clean plastic container with a tightly fitting cap. He or she then fills the bottle with aquarium water and shakes vigorously to mix the supplement. The aquarist then pours the contents of the container directly into the last chamber of the sump (after all mechanical and chemical filtration). Alternatively, the aquarist can add the mixture directly to the aquarium or even into an attached refugium.

The reef aquarist should not be alarmed by significant clouding of the water occurring directly after adding Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement to the reef aquarium. It is even possible that some larger, un-dissolved particles may be present, but because this is an all-natural coral supplement, there is no risk to any coral or other invertebrate that comes into direct contact with the particulate (this is not the case when using other supplements such as Kalkwasser). Expect the tank to clear within thirty minutes of adding Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement to the reef tank.

Adjusting Dosages for a Specific Tropical Reef Tank

It is recommended on the container that the reef aquarist dose the tropical reef aquarium twice weekly with Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement. At this rate, a 20-ounce container should treat about 1200 gallons of water. Because all reef tanks are different, a better way to determine appropriate dosages for a given tropical reef aquarium is to closely monitor alkalinity and calcium in the aquarium. Aquaria more heavily populated with coral may benefit from larger dosages than the recommended one tablespoon per thirty gallons twice weekly.

To adjust dosage based on alkalinity and calcium readings, the aquarist tests for alkalinity and calcium using standard test kits (e.g., Salifert or Seachem) three or more hours after adding the recommended dosage of Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement. If either reading is below the aquarist’s target range (380-450 ppm for calcium and 2.5-4 meq/L or 7-11 dKH for alkalinity), then the aquarist adds a second dose of Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement to his or her reef tank. Once the target range is achieved, the reef aquarist continues to monitor (at least twice weekly) for calcium and alkalinity and doses Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement as needed.

Fiji Gold Coral and Live Rock Supplement is a Walt Smith product and is readily available at most local fish stores and online retailers of marine aquarium supplies.
